Our dedicated shadow teacher provides consistent, one-to-one support throughout the school day. We help students engage with the curriculum, manage behaviour, develop social confidence, and work towards greater independence.
In partnership with parents and school staff, we develop an individualised plan that is reviewed as the student’s needs, progress, and school environment change. This collaborative approach helps create an inclusive learning experience where students with diverse learning needs can feel understood, supported, and ready to learn.

Our shadow teacher services are dedicated to fostering inclusion and promoting independence for students with diverse learning (SEN) and behavioral needs, enhancing their success in school settings across four key areas:

A shadow teacher provides individualised, one-to-one support to a student during the school day. They help the student participate in classroom activities, follow routines, manage emotions and behaviors, communicate with others, and develop greater independence within an inclusive learning environment.
Shadow teacher support may benefit students with special educational needs (SEN), autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, behavioral challenges, communication difficulties, emotional regulation needs, or other learning needs. The level and type of support are tailored to each student’s individual strengths and challenges.
A shadow teacher helps students with diverse learning needs (SEN) understand instructions, remain engaged in lessons, complete tasks, manage classroom transitions, and interact positively with teachers and classmates. These strategies are tailored directly to the student's unique learning profile and aligned with school policies, with the ultimate goal of fostering independence and systematically fading support over time.
Shadow teacher support helps students participate meaningfully in a classroom alongside their peers. The shadow teacher provides appropriate guidance, encouragement, and use practical strategies so the student can access learning and become an active member of the school community.
A shadow teacher can support several areas of school life, including:
- behavior management and classroom routines
- Emotional regulation and transitions
- Social and communication skills
- Academic engagement and task completion
- Peer relationships and classroom participation
The priorities are based on the student’s individual needs.
The goal of effective shadow teacher support is to build independence, not dependence. Assistance should be gradually reduced as the student develops new skills and becomes more independent. Guided by a thoughtful Individualized support plan, shadow teachers use contextual-fit strategies—such as prompting, modeling, visual supports, and positive reinforcement—to help students complete tasks with increasing autonomy over time.
The individualized support plan is developed collaboratively by assessing the student’s unique strengths, learning needs, behavioral patterns, school environment, and family priorities. A behavior consultant conducts observations to identify specific support requirements and works closely with parents, teachers, and the school's learning support team to establish clear, meaningful goals. Throughout the process, all parties maintain ongoing communication to refine and adjust strategies as the student progresses.
